Olivier Horiot has a vineyard in Les Riceys in the Côte des Bar, a small village about an hour south of the "middle" of Champagne, where he grows Pinot Noir on soils more akin to Chablis and Burgundy than to the rest of Champagne. The wines he makes are remarkably vinous, with layers of rich red fruit, balanced by smooth acidity and framed by a tension-free salinity. Olivier makes some of the most exciting terroir-driven wines in Champagne today. They are full, rich and textured, yet retain finesse and a lingering minerality. Because of the small yields they are incredibly rare, so don't miss these beautiful and unique wines.
