Weingut Brand was founded in 1891 as a mixed farm with grapes and animals. It is now 18 hectares and is run by the fifth generation, the young brothers Daniel and Jonas Brand, who took over in 2014. Weingut Brand is in the village of Bockenheim, in the northernmost part of the Pfalz (Germany's second-largest wine region). It borders the neighbouring Rheinhessen region and has a cool climate that lets the grapes ripen slowly.

Once the grapes arrive in the cellar, they are always fermented separately for each parcel. The brothers prefer this as it helps them better understand the grapes and the vintage. In the cellar they use stainless steel and old wooden barrels of various sizes. All the wines in the Pur range stay on their fine lees until bottling.

They make two ranges: "Classic" and "Pur". The Classic range is fermented with wild yeast, lightly filtered, and has sulphur added at bottling. The Pur range is entirely wild-yeast fermented, unfined, unfiltered and without any additives, including sulphur. German wine law doesn't allow unfiltered wines to be labelled by region, so the Pur range is labelled as wine from Germany rather than Pfalz. Helga, the brothers' grandmother, drew the pictures for the bottle labels. These are wines with plenty of energy and personality, just like the brothers themselves.
