Domaine L'Ausseil is located in Latour de France, a small village in the heart of Roussillon in the south of France, and is run by Jacques de Chancel. Jacques was captivated by the area, where he fell in love with old vineyards growing Grenache Noir, Carignan and Syrah.
Alongside his passion for wine, Jacques is also a big fan of the singer Edith Piaf. It was this dual passion that inspired the name and founding of Domaine de l'Ausseil. The name "Ausseil" comes from the Occitan language and means "bird", and as the sharp-eyed will have noticed, Jacques uses a beautifully drawn bird on his labels. As a tribute to Edith, he named his first wines "P'tit Piaf", which are his most famous wines.
